TERENGA THURSDAYS IN 2009!
Word Y'all,
After a wicked first crack at the Little Baobab sound system two weeks ago, I'll be back on the decks this Thursday, January 1st for the official start of TERENGA, a new weekly jump-off featuring diverse beats from some of the Bay Area's stillmatic selectors.
We'll be covering all the bases of Global Bass on the night - expect to hear hip-hop, dancehall, reggae, dub, bhangra, afrobeat, middle eastern, funk, glitch, dubstep, baltimore club, breaks, house, electro, bassline, grime and yeah, we'll bang on the kitchen sink, too, if it feels right. Skip the Beauty Bar bougie tight jean scene and get down for real with a bodyrockin' international crowd.
Come early to avoid the (cheap) cover and to sample Little B's tasty West African menu - their plantains and veggie curry go great with a hibiscus margarita, or so I've heard.

So it's been 20 months...who's counting?
Certainly not Florida pollsters, that ish has been settled like last night's tofu curry in my belly. Mmmm to leftover curry for lunch today AND lush folk-poptronica via Birds & Batteries at the Independent tonight. 1848 Divisadero, FREE! 8:30 doors, 9pm for musics.
Fridays are OK in my book (publish date TBA).
Next up: Post-election Saturday brings dubsteppery and weirdo basstronics from L.A. beat-niks Daedelus, Flying Lotus and Brit Low-Ender Kode 9 to 103 Harriet. $15 advance tix. 10pm.
In other news, I still haven't heard back from the Obama administration on my application (courtesy of urg.tumblr.com - thanks, Joy!)...check back for updates.

big bad bass at the boulevard
i'm about to kick off a musically engorged weekend with Hochi & Infiltrata of TekDBZ, a front-running drum&bass record label, bringing the heavy, hypersonic drums tonight at the boulevard in san marcos.
TekDBZ Podcast Vol. 8 featuring Hochi in the mix.
also repping on the decks is DJ Dregen, an up-and-coming local selecta recently signed to BLK INK Clothing and Schedule One Media.
packing up the brown paper bags because i have a feeling things may get ugly.

Priorities for Today
1) get out of bed (check)
2) share music, film, technology and event info, san diego-related stuff, subtle idiosyncratic humor and unsolicited opinions via vast array of inter-netted tubes (check)
3) profit (?)
free musical tidbit of the day: Doormouse - Dead Prez vs Van Halen (mash-'em-up!)
more from Doormouse here, suckers.
while you're at it, buy some crap at the addict records store, including out-of-print Drop Bass hardcore vinyl and releases by Doormouse's prolific lifepartner, drummer/fashionista Anonymous.
